Ometepec Update
In January we had a wonderful team come from Ohio. They were a big encouragement here. Many of them shared and helped in the Carey
Brenton School with English. In the
afternoons they offered to teach baseball to whoever was interested.
Baseball is a sport
that is not played here in Ometepec, so we did not know what would happen. However,
the turnout was fantastic. Children,
youth, college students, and adults showed up.
Time was taken at the breaks for testimonies. One of the team members had played baseball
professionally and was able to share this gift of baseball with everyone. What was more impacting though was the
sharing of Jesus on the field.
Our faithful “Hope” team from Tennessee helped start a men’s
group in the Pinotepa mission in February. This fun and wonderful team has continued to
help tremendously in the construction of the mission there.
We were thrilled that the World Cataract Team was able to
make it in February as it didn’t work out in November for them to come. They have been coming for over 40 years!! The people of Ometepec and the surrounding
areas will never be the same as many of them receive the gift of sight after
the cataracts are removed. It was a double
blessing because our son, Josh, was able to join them this year.
Tim started
organizing the coaches in January for the children’s soccer league. The first games were played February 13th and
continue to be played every Saturday until the season ends. There are about 240 soccer players on the
field every Saturday. The youth division
ages are from ages 13-15 and the children’s division ages are 10-12.
It was encouraging last weekend as Tim met a man who told
him that he was very impressed with the devotional thoughts given to his nephew
who plays in the league. (The coaches
share with them at half time, etc.)
The PES Team was sent out and has been working for about a
month and a half. This is an evangelism
group of three young men: Poli, Manual, and Imanol, who Tim challenged
to go out for six months to four different missions. We thank the Lord for the way they are being
used. I saw them in action at the Pinotepa
mission where Tim spoke at the Valentine’s Day banquet. They have been “spreading the net” through
drama, door to door evangelism, sports, and speaking in schools, as well as
helping out in any way in the missions.
The Lord continues to bless the school. We are grateful for the dedicated teachers
and administration. I continue to be so
thankful for Nathan, a young man who is dedicated to the Lord, who is helping
in the school and mission work around here.
The Lord has truly
blessed! Just this last week one of the
parents of a graduate from the junior high school shared how his son is
competing in Mexico City with over a 120,000 students at the Unam Mexican High School
and has won twice in Math!!!!!! I was also
blessed by one of our junior high graduates who tuned 15 and invited me to her
party. She is now the valedictorian of
her class at a local high school. She
was laughing with me when we remembered how scared and shy she was when she
entered the Carey Brenton Junior High school.
She has come a long way….
This month of March has been a whirlwind as we continue with
the sports ministries, the missions, and now preparing for the children’s camp
as well as the youth camp. Tim (and I)
will also be giving a couples workshop over Easter’s vacation.
Prayers: We would
appreciate your prayers!!!!!
